The History of the Fedora Hat

The fedora was first seen in the late 1800s as an accessory worn by Sarah Berhardt in a play called Fédora by Victorien Sardou. Soon after, this became a must-have piece for women – and especially those who fought for women’s rights. The style was so classy and versatile that even men found ways to style them with their existing wardrobe pieces, temporarily replacing top hats and flat caps.

The 1920s saw it make a resurgence, and again in the 1940s when filmstars often adopted the formal look. Despite fluctuations in popularity, ladies fedora hats will always have a place in women’s fashion, especially thanks to the ability to style them with a myriad of clothing pieces.
