Whilst we think that brunch is a year-round treat, springtime is the time when we start to make more plans with friends and family due to the (hopefully) nicer weather. It’s the perfect daytime activity for catching up, eating lots of delicious food and maybe having a few drinks (hot beverages or alcoholic drinks work for brunch).
If you’ve been reading our content for a while, you’ll know that we’re all about adding key pieces to your wardrobe that you can wear for various occasions. Brunch is usually a smart-casual affair but that doesn’t mean you have to get yourself a full brand new outfit every time you go. Having a capsule wardrobe means you can add in select quality pieces and mix and match what you already have.
In this blog post, we’ll show you our top 5 brunch outfit ideas, including a top, bottoms and shoes. But the best part is all of the 15 items can be switched between outfits to make a new outfit. With just 15 pieces, you could in theory make 125 different outfit combinations! Talk about value for money!
Tweed skirt + collared shirt + tall leather boots
This is the ultimate country lady look for brunch! A fitted tweed skirt is such a classy and luxurious piece without being too expensive. Whether you’d love a pastel pink shade or a traditional olive or navy pattern, a tweed skirt should be a staple in any country lady’s wardrobe. They’re the perfect item to dress both up and down but for brunch, it’s best to dress up a little. That's why a collared shirt is a great partner in crime for a tweed skirt. You might think it strange to pair a tweed pattern with a checked shirt but our country checked shirts are subtle. Whether you opt for a neutral shade or go for a vibrant colour, collared shirts and tweed really do complement each other perfectly. Lots of our customers purchase one shirt and then return for another because the 100% cotton is long lasting and comfortable to wear!
To round off the look, a pair of tall leather boots should do the trick. They make any outfit look instantly smarter and as long as they’re looked after properly, they’ll last for years. Clean any dirt or mud off as soon as it appears, make sure to use a leather protectant spray, and they’ll still look like new in a year from now! Tall boots are often slimmer in design, whether they’re suede, patent or matte, but still have hard-wearing soles for longevity. This style of boot never goes out of country fashion because we believe in classic, timeless pieces.
Slim fit jeans + polo shirt + Chelsea boots
If you’re looking for an everyday essential, a pair of well-fitting slim fit jeans will see a woman through just about anything. Whilst the younger generation might say that slim jeans are out, trust us when we say that slim fit jeans that fit your body well will never go out of fashion. Our jeans all come with added stretch because whilst we love to look stylish, it’s important that we feel comfortable in our clothes too!
If there’s any item that screams country living, it’s an equestrian-inspired polo shirt. Whether you prefer a sleeker emblem style, a striped version or one with a sash across it, we have just about every style for every lady. You can go as crazy as you like with colour here because the dark wash jeans are just like a neutral item. For brunch especially, we really like a traditional version like our Charlie polo shirt. It comes in twelve colours so plenty of choice. Trust us, you’ll love it so much, you’ll buy it in a handful of colours!
To smarten up this look, add a pair of Chelsea boots, another item that should be in every lady’s wardrobe. A suede pair can look particularly dressy if you’re looking to update your footwear collection. We’re big fans of a leather pair, purely because country living is often muddy and suede can be a little more difficult to clean. If you need a sturdier sole, a pair of yard boots are the perfect mix between Chelsea boots and worker boots
Denim shorts + rugby shirt + deck shoes
If it’s too warm for jeans, how about a pair of denim shorts instead? Our styles fit mid-thigh, which is super flattering on women of any shape or size. There are plenty of belt loops and pockets too because often, women’s shorts and denim don't have either! All of our denim items feature stretchy material because comfort comes first. A pair of quality-made denim shorts will see you through lots of summers, even if you wear them every day!
To keep the more casual outfit going, a cotton fitted rugby shirt will make your outfit instantly more countryfied. We’ve recently added a bunch of new designs and colourways to our rugby shirt collection so there is plenty of choice. Our quartered designs have become very popular as they’re still ladylike but you still keep comfortable in one. If you prefer something more subtle, our Cropton plain version will soon become your go-to item to wear for any spring or summer’s day.
Rounding off the look, a pair of deck shoes will become your go-to footwear for summertime. They’re practical for running errands and meals out but also very comfortable for shorter countryside walks. If you’re new to the world of deck shoes, we first recommend purchasing a pair in brown or tan leather. They’re the most versatile colour and won’t clash with any outfit. However, khaki and navy styles can really elevate a look.
Chino skirt + loose sleeveless blouse + loafers
If you want to add a pop of colour to your outfit, a sorbet or khaki coloured chino twill skirt is an instant brunch item to wear. Again, the fit falls just above the knee, making it the perfect piece for transitional seasons, such as spring and autumn. The A-line style is also really flattering and the stretchy fabric makes it comfortable to sit and walk in! It’s ideal for if you eat too much at brunch too!
To complement the coloured skirt, a cream patterned floaty blouse with a V-shaped neckline makes for a very feminine outfit. They’re so lightweight and breathable, ideal for warm summer days when you don’t want anything too restrictive on. You can also layer a camisole underneath if you prefer a cotton layer to your skin. The animal prints on the blouses are very subtle but still give a nod to country lifestyle.
Finish off the look with a pair of comfy loafers, the most perfect summertime footwear. Our collection features suede, patent and matte leather so the choice really is yours. Some styles feature a more flexible rubber sole than other styles so if you’re planning on doing lots of walking in them, consider that first! Loafers are such a classy pair of shoes but because they’re so comfortable, you can run your errands in them too.
Straight leg jeans + striped top + heeled boots
A pair of straight leg jeans are one of our go-to items in our wardrobes because once you get a pair that fits you well, you won’t want to wear any other pairs of jeans! This style has definitely made a comeback in recent years, with jean styles getting wider-fitting again, but straight leg jeans are a way to dip your toes into that trend! Again, we’ve made them from super stretchy material for a more flattering fit. They’re a more relaxed fit than slim fit styles but still feel fitted without being tight.
A striped top will never go out of fashion. Add a touch of Paris to your country lady look with a Breton-inspired short sleeved T-shirt. We only use the softest of cotton in our tops so you know that it will be long lasting and one of the most comfortable tops you own. Whilst not a longline top, the cut is slightly longer than many T-shirts on the market as we know our customers prefer a longer fit.
Jeans and a T-shirt can be quite an regular outfit but by adding a pair of heeled boots, it makes it look instantly dressier. Going for brunch means you want to be comfortable but if you’re not normally a fan of heels, our styles are pretty low in the heels and you’ll be sitting down for the most part! All of our heeled boots have chunky soles to make them even easier to walk in too!
It’s important to us that you don’t just buy items for one wear. We want to help you build a wardrobe that is full of pieces you can mix and match for every occasion. Simply by switching your shoes or accessories or adding a jacket, you can completely change an outfit from casual to smart. Jeans and a T-shirt can be dressy and alternatively, you can dress down a tweed skirt too.
With our 5 brunch outfit ideas, we hope you can find a style to suit you, whether you want to stick to what you know or try something new. It’s the perfect time to dress up a little, whether you’re dressing to impress or simply want to feel good about yourself, but don’t forget, you can just dress casually if that’s more your thing. This selection of country ladylike items can be worn for a variety of occasions, not just brunch, so we’d love to see how you style them!
